Change Skype Sound in the Control Panel

Make a beeline for the Control Panel, and tap on Sounds and Audio Devices.

Go to the Playback tab, and watch that nothing is presently set to quiet.

Under the Recording tab, confirm that amplifier is checked.

Change Skype Sound in the Application

Open Skype and make a beeline for Tools > Options > Audio Settings > Microphone.

Select Microsoft default gadget, and uncheck the Automatically change sound settings choice:
